This happened purely by accident. Getting ready for work one morning, I couldn’t find the headset for my iPhone. I was drawing a blank as to where I put it and with the clock ticking, I was all about panned out as to remembering where the thing was. My daughter was home from college at the time and had her cell phone on the couch with her headset attached. She has a Blackberry Pearl which used a 3.5mm jack. I took a second look at it and realized that functionally it looked the same as the iPhone’s headset. There was the button in the middle that turned the phone on and off and also served as the place where the microphone was mounted.
Though much bigger, it’s the same thing. I decided to give it a quick try to see if it would work. Presto! it did! What was more surprising was that it sounded better! The bass was richer and the higher was clearer. The quality of the sound coming from this thing was way beyond what the white phones I got from Apple. It was also quieter to the outside folks. No more hissing, no more squeaky conversations. This was a pleasant surprise and a bit of a disappointment for Apple from me. I expected them to be at the forefront of cool with providing the best sound but for me, cool stops at how the thing looks. Apple is known to put form and function together but with their headset, function took a backseat. Whats more interesting, I was able to get it for $7 on the internet. The iPhone genuine Apple headset was $30. A cheapskate like me just salivated on that. So cheaper, sounds better. Apple what’s happening here.
Well there are things to be concerned. One thing, the Blackberry headset is quite flimsy, though I have to admit I am at fault since I busted the things up having it on my ear and getting up. I have already changed 2 of them so far. Give it a chance and you’ll see. Let me know if it works for you. Just make sure its the 3.5mm type as its very easy to mix it up with the 2.5mm. I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed. Give it a shot. Let me know.
