Troy West
Jimmy Carter, also from the same state where this attack occurred, spoke of racism being at the heart of the attacks on President Obama. This is known but denied and cases like this only brings to the fore what is real and what some people are trying to believe. Reminds me of the woman in NJ who made some statement about Obama and had a bucket of KFC and watermelon. When asked if what she’s doing is racist, despite it being know that those were unflattering representations of African Americans. She said. “I’m not racist”. If you would ask a Klansman if he’s racist he would say “no, I’m not racist, its just the uppity n***** I can’t stand”.
What this case shows is simply the ugly rising to the top. The fact that folks helped is complex. A lot like how much I cringe when I see a group of young blacks pass by with the pants falling to the ground, smoking weed and cursing, even using the “N” word. Its embarrassing and you certainly don’t want to be associated with that. Not that I don’t feel the witnesses cared for the woman’s welfare. I do feel they did. They were fully aware of the racial connotations of this act and they themselves didn’t want to be identified with this type of character.
From what I know, a lot of people are looking on to see what happens. The case will be investigated as a hate crime and I’m looking out to see what happens. This is clearly a case where Troy West beat the crap out of the woman because she was black. What made him so angry as to take the action he did, while calling the woman a black nigger bitch is the heart of realizing what’s happening here in the country. He did this in front of the woman’s child which meant he didn’t care what he did. It is for this reason, whatever it is, that would warrant justice. Justice not only for Blacks who are in shock about this case, one that brings back images of the lynchings, the beatings during the civil rights movement, slavery and all the negatives being black has been in this country. Justice is also going to be for whites who wish in their hearts that they have moved on and they are no more the people that inflicted the pain they did on people of color in the past.
Reminds me of the old Brook Benton, also a Georgian, “Still Waters Run Deep”. Lets see how deep this really is.
